We love movies about big bugs, and nothing makes our skin crawl more than colonies of creeping colossal ants!
Here's the first trailer for It Came From The Desert, an indie horror comedy adapted from the '80s action video game of the same name. I don't recall ever playing this game in my obsessive arcade days, but it looks like a cool premise, where a scientist investigating an asteroid landing in Nevada discovers the local ant population has somehow grown -- gigantically so.
It Came From The Desert began life as a semi-obscure 1989 adventure game inspired by the classic monster movies of the 1950s. It was released by Cinemaware for the old Amiga platform, but was also available for the PC, Sega Genesis, and TurboGrafx-16.
The film adaptation heralds from Finland’s Roger! Pictures and will be distributed by Raven Banner Entertainment. With obvious nods to Them!, Empire of the Ants, and Tremors, It Came From The Desert was directed by Marko Mäkilaakso (War of the Dead), who co-wrote the screenplay with Hank Woon (Age of Dinosaurs) and Trent Haaga (Killjoy). No official release date yet, but we'll keep you posted.
Grab the picnic basket and flee into this funny first trailer, then tell us if you're itching to go see these extra-large insects running amok.
